No Vac product review

That’s my new motto and I’m sticking to it!

It’s no secret that living with kids adds a little bit of chaos to the household. (#blessed #grateful)

We all know kids are adventurous and love experimenting. Everthing is a learning experience for them so its almost guaranteed that whenever there is silence…mess will follow.

As much as it pains me to see dirty finger marks on walls, face marks on glass doors, mouth smudges on the couch and food stains or muddy prints on the carpet I have come to terms with the fact that this is my life for the next little while.

All these marks are a daily reminder that my kids don’t listen to me or the rules are making memories.

They’re playing, multitasking, learning and growing. But above all almost all of these marks can be erased with the help of some products.

I recently came across No Vac products (available at Woolworths) and have been using them for the past few weeks around our household.

No Vac is a range of products designed to freshen up carpets, rugs and fabrics (like couches) without the need to vacuum afterwards.

Once applied you can see it foaming and then it simply penetrates into the fibres to combat odours and bacteria. It’s simple and quick to use and leaves the area and room smelling fresh for those moments unexpected guests pop by!

I’ve also been using the No Vac Sanitizer and Deodotiser to freshen up the rugs in all the bedrooms, including the Bath mats.

The No Vac instant Spot and Stain remover is also designed to be used without needing to vigorously scrub away at a stain.

We had a few old stains on our rug that I left there for too long and after using No Vac Spot and Stain remover the soiled section is pretty much brand new again! I simply sprayed the area and let it work it’s magic for a few minutes before dabing it gently with a cloth. Because our stains were there for a while #mumlife I had to repeat the process a few times but it effectively worked in eliminating the stains.

NO Vac Spot and stain remover in action.

If you’d like to know more about No Vac products you can get all the information you need here.

They’re also on sale this week at Woolworths which means it’s time for me to stock up!

Sending you love,

MBS

Fantastic Services

Recently I had the pleasure of collaborating with Fantastic Services. Below is my review on their service.

We all know how tough the juggle of mum life/work life/chore life is, and sometimes it seems completely impossible to get to those tasks around the house that require your attention, because those little people tugging at your feet also require your attention!

Insert Fantastic Services!

👆👆

This is totally how I felt after the @fantasticservicesau team worked their magic on my house last week.

Fantastic Services provide a range of domestic and commercial cleaning services across Sydney, Melbourne, UK and USA.

From the very beginning, dealing with the team was an absolute breeze. Their online booking system is simple and efficient, and their app is easy to navigate. I was able to pick and choose what type of clean I was after as well as add other specific areas of interest. Once confirmed, the team got in contact with me so I could further explain my cleaning needs to them and ensure no stone was left unturned!

To say that I was excited was an understatement.

At exactly 9 am the team arrived with their equipment and products ready to tackle my list. At first I was a little taken aback that they were two males, but my concerns very quickly evaporated once they begun working.

They were thorough, and went above and beyond to ensure they completed the specified tasks in the allocated time frame.

They scrubbed and dusted, wiped, vacuumed, and mopped. They moved things around, and collected a nice heap of junk from under my couches!

From benches to windows, blinds to floors, bathrooms and bedrooms, my house was left sparkling from top to bottom!

BEFORE

AFTER

Having a cleaner has been on my “bucket list” for quite some time. However they don’t always come cheap. You can view Fantastic Services estimated price list for their range of cleaning here (which in my opinion are very reasonable)

Inlisting the services of Fantastic Services is something I would definitely do again. Having that extra professional help made all the difference and allowed me to spend more quality time with the kids instead of the vacuum!

If you have been looking to outsource some of your household chores I highly recommend visiting https://fantasticservicesgroup.com.au/

You can use ‘steph10’ at checkout to receive $20 off any service booked. *

I did however receive the clean for free in exchange for a review.

This too shall pass

Hey mama,

Hang in there ‘cos..

This too shall pass.

You won’t always be suffering from sickness, heartburn, sciatica, peeing every minute or pregnancy insomnia. There will come a day when..

This too shall pass.

All those vomit stained tops, eye bags, hourly feeds and poo explosions won’t be around forever..

This too shall pass.

Those dreaded dragged out bed times, sleepless nights, midnight wake ups, bed wetting, kicks in the head, feet in the ribs, early mornings will also one day fade..

This too shall pass.

The patting, rocking, swaying, pram pushing, car rides, dummy, comforter, white noise tricks wont always be needed..

This too shall pass.

The terrible twos, threenager, fournado, tantrums, negotiations, hair pulling, biting, and all out crazy kid behaviour will vanish..

This too shall pass.

The strong need for botomless pits of coffee, tea, wine, “anything to get me through this day” will diminish..

This too shall pass.

You won’t always be googling late at night, scrolling through endless articles or monitoring leaps, thunderstorms and other crazy regressions as..

This too shall pass.

Every stage is temporary.

Every confusing moment will one day become clear.

Every sleepless night will one day no longer be.

Every moment of doubt,

Every tear,

Every tantrum,

Every moment of defeat,

Is temporary.

And YES in those moments it’s hard, SO hard, to see the light at the end of the tunnel.

But it’s there.

Shining ever so dimly waiting for you.

So next time you feel frustrated, overwhelmed, confused or simply over it….

Take a deep breath and remember…

Sleep tips…we all need them!

Getting your little ones sleep back on track or on track to begin with can be a difficult task!

This is something I’ve struggled with for many months (closer to a year) now. My perfect little sleepers have been waking constantly and will only sleep if we co-sleep. We’ve never coslept before so all my ideals of cuddling them beautifully throughout the night were crushed with all the rib kicks, toes in my face and NO more couple time.

So when Tara from The Gentle Sleep Specialist reached out I was thrilled to receive some tips to get our sleeping back on track!

Tara Mitchell is a paediatric nurse, qualified infant and toddler sleep consultant and mother. She has created a successful business that allows her to guide, educate and support parents to create healthy sleep habits with their little ones.

“I pride myself on the support my clients receive and my compassionate, caring nature enables me to establish life changing results that brings much needed sleep for physical, emotional and mental wellbeing of the child and parents.”

Below she shares with you her top tips to get back on track.

Has sleep gone wayside for your little ones? If your little ones sleep isn’t quite what it used to be or what you would like it to be here are some tips to get you back into the swing of a good night’s sleep!

1. Pick the right time. If you have a jam packed weekend ahead or are still in the thick of Christmas events, it’s probably not the best time to make change. Choose a good day to get back on track and commit to it. Plan to keep the week following as low key as possible.

2. Have a solid plan and make sure everyone is on board. Consistency is key when trying to bring in or get back healthy sleep habits and routine. If one parent is doing one thing and the other something different, it can get really messy. Children learn through consistency and repetition, if you have a solid plan in place that you feel comfortable with, your little one will not only learn quicker, they will also sense your confidence throughout the process. This will in turn make the process a lot more effective.

3. It is so important your little one isn’t getting drowsy or an opportunity to get a second wind in the bedtime process. As an example, toddlers are notorious for lying down on the couch with their milk and having some time in front of the tv right before bed. It is not uncommon to then see them ditch their milk, jump up and appear to be ready to go again. The same goes with babies too, if they are drowsy on their feed right before bed, it can mean that when that finishes and you attempt to put them down they are rested and think they are ready for play.

4. I recommend making changes from the beginning of the night, so from the bedtime routine. Make sure your routine is strong. If your toddler has a habit of trying to ask for more and stretch the rules, create a chart that has the bedtime routine list in steps, then as each one is completed they put a stamp in the box next to it. “Right you’ve been to the toilet or had a drink, pop a stamp down”. This helps to re-confirm to them they have done that particular activity and is a great thing to refer back to and show them when they ask for “one more drink”.

Break the silence…ANXIETY

Anxiety, PND, Miscarriage, Infertility.

These are just a few examples that are taboo topics that we don’t hear about often.
But why? So much why!!!
Shouldn’t we be joining forces with family, friends and our supporting communities to help eachother through these difficult times?

Mel @mummy_conwell and Steph @mummybloggersydney joined forces on a good ole Friday night (in our pjs, on Insta) to talk about our own real life issues. I think in about half an hour of talking we had learnt so much about eachother.

We asked eachother what we thought was the reason why we don’t tell anyone about our own anxieties.

Steph: People are caught up in their own lives, unless they have experienced it to it’s just wiped from their memory.

Mel: I don’t expect people to understand so that’s why I keep quiet. I think it’s by chance that when people do mention it they might come across someone who’s in the same boat and that is how they connect.

If it was as simple as a broken leg and everyone could see what is wrong, nobody understands what it’s like on the inside.

Anxiety can take form in many different ways and varies from person to person. Some have suffered and dealt with it all their lives whereas for others it comes on later in life.

Mel & Steph are the perfect example of this.

Mel @mummy_conwell has suffered from anxiety from a young age, but her triggers have changed as the years go on. She’s learnt to cope and has outgrown certain things that used to give her anxiety but of course gained more along the way.
When she was younger it was never really bought to her attention and labelled as “Anxiety” it was more a case of “she just gets nervous”. However for Mel it was nervous to the point of actually vomiting. When you go weeks on end before an event being riddled with nerves, feeling sick, lack of appetite, lack of sleep and the list goes on, something needs to be done. That’s got to be more than just nerves right?
Yes it was! Many years later after becoming more aware of her triggers she decided to head off to the doctor to find out what was going on. After completing a scoring chart Mel was diagnosed with a moderate/high level of Anxiety and OCD.

“I could probably only list a handful of people that actually know I have Anxiety and that understand, when I say understand I mean fully understand….. They understand how it makes me feel, they give me time to deal with it and of course offer reassurance in every way possible. Telling someone you understand and then telling them in the same sentence to snap out of it is not helpful, it makes everything worse.”

Through our own research (insta poll came in handy 😉)
We found that 90% of people have anxiety but only 72% of these have shared that with other people.

Why?
Fear of judgement?
Fear of inadequacy?
Lack of understanding?
Lack of support?
Noone should have to go through this alone.
Noone should be ashamed.
Society needs to change the stigma around Anxiety and Mental Illness.
It all starts with YOU!

“My main struggle with being diagnosed and medicated for anxiety was coming to terms with being put under that umbrella of ‘mental illness’, being diagnosed as mentally ill and the effect that would have on my future. If I walked into a job interview with a broken arm the employer would assume that it would fix itself and all would be okay, but if I walked into a job interview with my anxiety medication, I probably wouldn’t get the job and that’s what needs to change in society. Mental and physical health have similarities and mental health shouldn’t be looked down upon.” @life.with.lochlan

Anxiety is not something that is visible from the outside but it is still something that is judged the wrong way.

Steph @mummybloggersydney is still coming to terms with her anxiety and trying to understand it herself.
For her, it only began after she became a mother. All of a sudden normal everyday things that never bothered her before caused her huge angst.
Driving in traffic or through a tunnel could send her into a huge panic attack.
The fear of something happening to her husband and her being left alone with the kids would make her ill.
The idea of being in a situation that is new and where she has no control scares the hell out of her.

“All of a sudden I’ll have a thought or just be going about my normal day life and then something weird happens. I feel hot…then cold…light headed…sweaty…I can feel it creeping up from my stomach, approaching my throat, closing in on me.

I can’t breathe. My heart races. My head spins.
I’m having a panic attack.”

Steph’s anxiety is not diagnosed by a professional, (just like another 55% of people polled) but that doesn’t mean it’s not real. She’s learnt to recognise the feeling and like Mel, uses a number of breathing and distraction techniques to calm herself down.

However 25% of people (our insta stats) who suffer from anxiety need to take medication to help. That is nothing to be ashamed of. Some people use a combination of many strategies. Everyone responds differently to life’s situations and to medication so each has to do what works for them.

“I don’t use medicine any more because I got addicted to Anxiety pills in college and literally had to have an intervention from my good friends. Later in pharmacy school I was prescribed an antidepressant for my anxiety but it made me SO depressed I couldn’t get out of bed so I have never medicated again for it. I’ve struggled with anxiety and perfectionism my whole life! I have been biting my fingers until they literally bleed including the skin around them! My panic attacks have recently stopped and my anxiety has gotten a little better. Scripture verses and being outside were how I got myself out of panic attacks. My husband also taught me the importance of mindfulness and meditation” @pharmacy_mommy

How powerful is it to hear another persons experience?!

95% of people know someone who suffers from Anxiety and 60% of people have a story to share.

So ask yourself,
Who will you reach out to today?
Get in touch.
Ask them if they are OK.
Have an honest, open conversation.
No judgement.
Pure support.
Try understanding.
Listen.
Really LISTEN.
And above all…
BE KIND.
You never know what someone else is going through.

Have a story to share or want to chat?

Let’s Talk….ME TIME

Let’s Talk…

ME TIME!

We all know that the realm of motherhood often takes over every aspect of your life, but it is SO important to still take care of YOU.

Taking time for yourself everyday, every week or every once in a while gives you the break you need to recharge and continue being the best parent you can be.

It may be as simple as 5 minutes every day or 5 hours out and about a month.

So, what does your “me time” look like?

Cafés and kids.

This is for every parent who has ever taken toddlers out to a cafe/restaurant/event where they are required to sit for more than five minutes.

Let’s face it. They’re kids. They’re meant to be loud, inquisitive and adventurous. But sometimes it would be nice to head out and actually SIT, eat and catch up with your friends, family or partner.

Before kids, hubby and I would dine out often. Breakfast, lunch, dinner and if I could twist his arm dessert too.

After kids, we still continued to do this. Sometimes is easier than others but we’ve never stopped or not taken the kids with us. We’ve also never (ok almost never) given them an ipad or phone at the table. It’s a rule in our family. When we eat we don’t use technology.  I know how much of a life saver giving a child a phone/tablet can be, so I’m not judging. However one thing I will never leave the house without is our Activity Bag.

The name speaks for itself. It’s a bag filled with activities that we take to cafes. The activities in there are only for cafes, so they aren’t ones they play with all the time and get bored of at home. I also change them up when I find something I think will fit well!

Here are a few of the items that rarely leave our bag:

1. No Mess Water Art set.

Whoever came up with this is a genius. Fill the little pen with water. Let the kids “paint” over the white card. A picture will appear when wet. It then dries and can be reused a million times.

2.  Magnetic fishing game.

Again…genius. Comes with 2 rods, 12 foam fish that entertain for ages!

3. Sticker books.

Always a great thing to have. These in particular have stickers and activities which is great!

4. Threading animlas.

Animal cut outs with holes. Shoe laces also provided to practise those fine motor skills and thread the string around each animal!

5. Notebook and pencils.

Your standard go to activity.  Let them create whatever they like.

All the items above (minus the bag) have been purchased from Kmart. (Not a sponsored post (I wish) just amazing stuff!) Most of them aren’t online so here’s another reason to visit your local Kmart 🙌
The bag is personalised from Small Print design and can be found here.

If you haven’t got yourself an Activity Bag already, trust me you need it. It’s a cafe game changer & above all LIFE SAVER.

(You can thank me later 😉)

Check your boobs!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness month.

I was 17 when I found my first lump, preparing to study for my HSC. I had always wanted to be a teacher and the university I wanted to get into had a higher UAI than all the others. So I was stressed and super focused on making it in.

It was probably growing there for a while…but I’d never checked my breasts before. I was 17 with no family history of breast cancer so that was the least of my priorities and the last thing on my mind.

It wasn’t cancer. But my first fibroadenoma; a non cancerous breast tumour usually occurring in young women.

The lump was 4 cm and caused me pain so I had to have it removed.

Being so young and scared at the time, I was convinced that one day I would have breast cancer as it seemed my body was predisposed to these lumps.

I didn’t and I don’t. But my little B cups have been through alot!

That was 2005.

Since then I’ve had a total of 4 breast operations to remove a number of these benign tumours. I have yearly checkups to monitor the growth, size and makeup of my breasts and the 13 lumps living inside them.

I’ve had numerous mammograms, biopsies and ultrasounds to check nodules, calcifications and lumps that are a bit out of the ordinary.

I can not encourage you enough to CHECK YOUR BOOBS!

There are some things you can’t take a chance on in life, and your health is one of them.

It takes 2 minutes of your time but can save you a long while of heartache. Do it in the shower, on the toilet, when you wake up, before you fall asleep, or as soon as you finish reading this.

Check your boobs.

Don’t know how, or what to look for?

I’ve got you covered 👇

So, how’d your check go?

Let’s talk….. BIRTH

Let’s talk…birth stories.

Experience is the best teacher and with the abundance of contradictory facts out there, I find it settling to learn and listen to real life experiences. (Keeping in mind everyone is different)

Help a mum to be out, by sharing your stories in the comments below. Here’s a few questions to get you started:

My labour was…….. min/hours/days

I had a birth plan……

I USED my birth plan…..

I took some sort of pain relief offered…..

During labour I swore I’d never have another child (but I did)……

If I could tell you ONE thing about birth it would be……
